Kenna is tired of being “normal.”
The only thing special about her is that she isn’t special at all. Which is frustrating when you’re constantly surrounded by superheroes. Her best friend, her ex-boyfriend, practically everyone she knows has some talent or power. Sure, Kenna’s smart and independent, but as an ordinary girl in an extraordinary world, it’s hard not to feel inferior.
So when three villains break into the lab where she interns, Kenna refuses to be a victim. She’s not about to let criminals steal the research that will make her extraordinary too.
But in the heat of battle, secrets are spilled and one of the villains saves her life. Twice. Suddenly, everything Kenna thought she knew about good and evil, heroes and villains is upended. And to protect her life and those she loves, she must team up with her sworn enemies on a mission that will redefine what it means to be powerful and powerless…
Exclusive interview with the author:
1) We love to learn more about authors’ personal lives. What other hobbies and interests do you have?
I’m vegan, which means I don’t eat meat or dairy. But I still miss a lot of omnivore treats. One of my very favorite things to do is try out a new vegan recipe, especially if it recreates something I used to love. Ever since I made my first vegan cupcake, I’ve been hooked. I make a mean veggie pot pie, vegetarian chili, and (of course) finger-licking, lip-smacking, good-to-the-last-crumb cupcakes.
2) Do you have a favorite writing beverage/snack?
I do almost all of my first draft writing at Starbucks, with my Alphasmart in my lap and a soy latte at my side. Sometimes I’ll try variations. Sometimes I add toffee nut, other times I’ll opt for a soy chai latte. And, of course, every fall I go through a few weeks of Pumpkin Spice Lattes. In fact, I’m sipping one right now. Mmmm…..
3) If you could have one super power what would it be?
The ability to beam the words/ideas/worlds in my head straight into the computer. Anything that would cut down on how long it takes to write the first draft.
4) Do you listen to music while you write? If yes, what do you like to listen to?
Yes! I go a bit crazy in silence, plus I get distracted by every little sound. So I have to have tunes filling my ears. I don’t necessarily have a specific playlist for each book or anything. I usually pull up a fun playlist on Spotify (my current fave is Mood Booster) and just let it roll. If I’m really in need of an energy boost, I listen to the Hamilton soundtrack on repeat, ad nauseum.
5) What techniques or tools do you use to keep yourself (and your story) organized?
I am a full-on Scrivener addict. I switched from PC to Mac, just so I could have the better version, and I was a beta tester for the new iOS app. It’s the only program I use during the brainstorming, plotting, and first drafting stages. (For first drafting, I write on my Alphasmart and then download into the Scrivener project.) I love how it lets me keep pictures, notes, plots, covers, webpages, questionnaires, scenes, characters, setting…. gah, EVERYTHING organized in one place. I couldn’t write a book, let alone a series, without it.
