Overcoming anxiety on the first day of kindergarten… The anxiety of finding one’s own place and friends in kindergarten without the comfort of having her fraternal twin sister nearby at first overwhelms Dee. Until she realizes even without her twin, Dee and her classmates for the most part are in the same boat. Suggested age range for readers: 3-8.
Exclusive interview with the author:
1) Do you listen to music while you write? If yes, what do you like to listen to?
I listen to inspirational music by Dyan Garris. Especially the “Patterns” and “Illusions” cd’s. Quite soothing and sparks my inspiration and patience. Amazing!
2) Thinking back to the way beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?
To write in my own voice and not to worry about how other author voices are. Be unique and stay true to myself.
3) Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?
All five of my children’s books are now available for the first time in a brick and mortar store, at Let’s Steep at the Montgomery Mall in North Wales, PA. This may not seem very exciting to the non-author, but to authors this is huge since it is certainly not as easy as it looks to garner shelf space in a physical store.
4) Dee and Deb Off They Go Kindergarten First Day Jitters is a great title! Who came up with it? Was it the original title or did it change along the way?
My nickname is Dee since there are two Aunt Donna’s in the family and Deb is my fraternal twin sister. The book is a true story based on our first day of kindergarten when we were separated for the first time from one another.
5) If you had to go back and do it all over again, what would you do differently?
Hmmm, don’t we all wish we had a restart or reset button! Honestly I would not worry so much about what others may think of my writing and to write what is true to my heart.
