Exclusive interview with the author:
1) If Oprah invited you onto her show to talk about your book, what would the theme of the show be?
Good question! I love Oprah. The theme of my show will be aired around the Olympic Games. I have a series of books and DVD’s based on yoga for athletes, especially focused around gymnasts. I work with the Olympic gymnastics team so they also come on the show to speak about how yoga helps them to be calm and centered before practice or a competition. We do a demo class with the gymnasts, and copies of books and DVDs are given out to the audience!
2) Thinking back to the way beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?
Thinking back to when I first sat down to write my book, I knew I was in for the long haul, but I had no idea what I was doing. I took what I learned and practiced from yoga and applied it while writing my book about yoga — trust in the process, go day to day and don’t get held back by the anticipation or intimidation. As long as I stayed focused I worked a little each and every day then I knew I was on my way. Staying organized was challenging; I learned how to a little more along the way.
I would say one of the most important things I’ve learned from the beginning to the end of this writing process was to stay consistent. Pushing through the process can be hard at times but persistence is key. Not giving up is always a good lesson and I was once again reminded of this from writing this book.
3) We love to learn more about authors’ personal lives. What other hobbies and interests do you have?
I grew up a gymnast in Michigan, retired the sport at 18, but stayed involved helping in the family business, Foxy’s Leotards. I had my daughter at 23, and we live in California. I coach gymnastics, teach yoga, and still work for Foxy’s doing marketing and sales. I love good food, traveling and road trips, going to the beach, hiking, going out to plays and movies, or relaxing at home.
4) What’s your favorite place to shop? Favorite type of coffee? Favorite place to hang out?
My favorite place to shop is probably Whole Foods. My favorite type of coffee is a vanilla hazelnut latte with almond milk. My favorite place to hang out is at home or the beach. Luckily my home is at the beach!
5) What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?
Currently I am reading Stories of the Sea. I just read The Fog Horn by Ray Bradbury while lying on the beach today with my daughter!
