Dillan Coggwell is a sassy, independent twenty-three-year-old who has just returned to her hometown ready to leave her college days and dark secrets behind. She finds a kick-ass job as a local designer, buys her first cozy townhome and has an amazing circle of friends but one thing is missing – her high school sweetheart. She can’t bear his hardened heart, model-esque girlfriend and life that doesn’t involve her. Can she fight the agonizing feelings that have been haunting her and keep the past from surfacing?
Landi Powell is more than a little miffed that the girl who stole and crushed his heart is back on his turf. How dare she disturb his social life, befriend his dying mother and act as if they were the bonded friends they once were. He vowed to never let her back in – no matter what. But when he finds his world crumbling, Landi isn’t sure he can suppress the feelings he’s tried so hard to forget. Will he allow himself to soften enough to love again?
Exclusive interview with the author:
1) How did you get the idea for the novel?
I wrote my first novel about the characters in Love Again when I was thirteen years old. Their saga continued as I got older and thus the draft for Love Again was born. I never thought that I would publish Landi and Dillan’s story but something told me it was the right thing to do. I hope others will enjoy their quirks and misadventures as much as I have!
2) Love Again is a great title! Was it the original title or did it change along the way?
I decided on the title for this book while revising it for publication. The manuscript was originally written years ago and had a preliminary title that didn’t fit – it was missing that magic. I wanted the title to reflect Landi and Dillan’s love for one another and also their overall journey. I think Love Again sums it up nicely.
3) Did you always know you wanted to be a writer? Who, or what, inspired you?
I had no idea I wanted to be a professional writer for most of my life. Writing to me was fun, entertaining and a form of escape. It wasn’t until after the completion of my fifth novel that I realized I wanted to share my writing with the world. I had been writing my entire life but up to that point all of my novels were private. There was something that occurred while writing that fifth book – a metamorphosis. Since then, I have been very passionate about sharing my writing with others. My children have been a huge inspiration for me.
4) Love Again is written from the point of view of both male and female protagonists. Did you find it challenging to switch genders?
For me, writing from the point of view of both male and female protagonists comes easily. Granted, my early male characters are a bit on the girly side, though my practice improved over time. I think the key is to not get intimidated by gender. Think of your character as a blank slate. When it comes down to it, we are simply writing about human beings.
5) Do you have any advice for aspiring authors? Or for writers in general?
Believe in yourself and never give up! Create a platform, network and promote yourself as a professional. Define what you want and go for it! I highly recommend immersing yourself in whatever category or genre you’re most passionate about. If you are a romance writer, join RWA. If you’re a children’s book writer, join SCBWI, and so forth. I think it’s important to get as close to your goals as possible by connecting with others who are in the field or genre you’re interested in. Allow others to help you on your journey.
