Clayton’s Honor by MK McClintock

5 autographed copies will be given away on Friday, July 17, 2015.

Anne Doyle lost her father to a foolish war and her mother to madness. Left with debt and an ancient family home, she struggles to keep the rest of her family together even as an enemy attempts to take them away. After witnessing a brutal murder, Anne must enlist aid from the only family she has left if she is to save those she loves.

Devon Clayton had no intentions of leaving behind his life of adventure and danger, but when he is charged with protecting a witness and her family, he must choose between duty to the country he serves and a woman who tests his honor and willingness to change. Together they will discover that nothing is what it seems and that without honor, love and life are for nothing.

Setting: Victorian England and Ireland
Sensuality Rating: PG

Exclusive interview with the author:

1) If there was one thing about Anne Doyle’s life that you’d like to have in your own life, what would it be? What about the one thing about her life that you’d NEVER want to have?

Anne Doyle has Devon Clayton in her life, and he’s quite a prize. I wouldn’t want to have to be faced with some of her choices. I don’t make life easy for my characters, and Anne ends up having to make some difficult decisions.

2) If your book were to be turned into a movie, would your dream cast be?

This has changed in my mind from the first book to the third in the series, but I’ve since created a Pinterest board for this. For the main characters in the three British Agent books, my choices would be . . .

Luke Mably could pull off Tristan Sheffield in ALAINA CLAIBORNE.
Emilie de Ravin would be my choice for Alaina in ALAINA CLAIBORNE
Rob James-Collier could pull off Charles Blackwood from BLACKWOOD CROSSING
It’s a toss up between Katie McGrath and Jessica Brown Findlay for Rhona in BLACKWOOD CROSSING
Santiago Cabrera as the charming and debonair, Devon Clayton in CLAYTON’S HONOR
Gemma Arterton would make an excellent Anne Doyle from CLAYTON’S HONOR

3) What are three things people may not know about you?

1) I’m deathly afraid of heights, but I’ve still done crazy things like jump off cliffs or out of airplanes.
2) I love to sing. I sang all through high school and won a role singing ‘Aquarius’ in a large production at the college, but I was too terrified to follow through with it.
3) My ancestry is quite a mixed bag of English, French Canadian, Irish, Scottish, and Scandinavian.

4) When did you first know that you wanted to be a writer? Have you had other jobs along the way?

I began writing poetry and stories as a child and then kept up the poetry through my teens. Toward the end of high school I tried my hand at longer works of fiction. I always felt such a sense of rightness when I wrote. As for other jobs, my first was in a greenhouse, and then I had a couple of jobs during and after high school. After college, I started a business with my mother and have been doing that ever since.

5) Thinking back to the way beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?

That there are no shortcuts. Writing is tough, solitary, and requires an exhaustive commitment of both time and energy. You cannot cut out one step of the process—no matter how you’re publishing—if you want to succeed and be taken seriously.

I love the fact that despite your fear of heights, you still face it head on. I’ve always wanted to jump off a cliff somewhere exciting. Just take a long run and jump and watch the beauty on the way down.

Clayton’s Honor looks like it’s going to be a really good read. 🙂

Thank you, Leah! I’m not sure I’d be quite so courageous now, but that’s what my teens and 20s were for. 🙂

Your book sounds fantastic. I loved your interview answers. I now have to investigate some of the actors/actresses you mentioned because I didn’t recognize all the names. And, of course, I have to get all your books to read. Thanks for this chance to win a copy of your latest. Best of luck with all you do.
