The second stand-alone installment of the British Agent novels takes you from England to the wild Highlands of Scotland and back again.
If you had to make a choice, would it be loyalty or love?
Torn between loyalty to her family and refusal to marry a laird she despises, Rhona Davidson accepts a dangerous proposal from a man she knows only as Blackwood.
Leaving behind a life of leisure, Charles Blackwood bravely serves his country with honor and the skill of a trained British agent. When his newest case returns him to the wild Highlands of Scotland, he is faced with a choice between killing a man and saving the only woman he has ever loved.
Charles and Rhona join their lives, only to discover that their choices will result in bloodshed, unless they can uncover a truth long buried, deep in the Highland soil.
Author MK McClintock returns with swashbuckling heroes and courageous heroines in Blackwood Crossing, a story of buried secrets and second chances.

Exclusive interview with the author:
1) When you set out to write a book, are you usually sparked by a story idea or a character?
It depends on the book. Oftentimes it’s the story idea that comes first, but once in a while I’ll come up with a character name that didn’t fit the current story, but I love the name so I set it aside. From that single name, a personality can emerge, then a story, then a series. That’s what happened with the British Agent books. The first book was originally going to be a single-title, but I loved the other two heroes so much that I felt they needed their own stories.
2) Your characters seem so alive and real…what’s your secret?
Their personalities are each uniquely their own. Sometimes I draw on the personalities of friends and family, giving one character traits from three or four different people. Once I get to know a little about them, they take on a life of their own, become individuals. I write them as though I was there in the room with them, seeing what they see, feeling what they feel. Without that connection, I couldn’t write their stories.
3) What kind of research did you have to do to bring this story to life on the page?
Quite a bit of research. Although I’ve been to Scotland, I haven’t visited England, so I had to rely 100% on research and stories from family who have been there in order to capture the region. I love Scotland, but there’s so much to the history I didn’t know before writing “Blackwood Crossing.” Most of the research doesn’t make an appearance on the page, but it all plays a part in bringing authenticity to the characters and time period. Research has become one of my favorite steps in writing a book.
4) What genre have you not yet written but really want to try?
Time-travel, which is strange for me because it’s not a genre I often enjoy reading, but I have this idea for a time-travel trilogy, and I expect that one day I’ll get them written.
5) If you weren’t a writer, what job would you love to try out?
I actually wanted to be a lot of things when I grew up, but once I hit college, I found myself most interested in Cultural Anthropology. However, I’d have to return to school for that degree, so I’d probably be a landscape designer. Let me say how happy I am that writing has worked out!
