Exclusive interview with the author:
1) What was your favorite book growing up and why?
I have two favorites. First, Laura Ingalls Wilder’s These Happy Golden Years. I must have read it dozens of times. It was my very first historical romance novel. My other favorite is The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I absolutely LOVE redemption stories and that is one of the best!
2) At what time of the day do you feel the most creative?
I’d love to say it’s in the morning but the truth is, I’m a night owl. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and have an idea for my story that I just have to write right away.
3) What book are you currently reading or what was the last book you read?
I’m currently reading Anne Barton’s Scandalous Summer Nights and I’m loving it! She is one of my favorite historical romance authors.
4) Which authors/books are you most influenced by?
This is a difficult one to answer but I’d say definitely Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, Judith McNaught, and Lisa Kleypas are my top 4 favorites!
5) What’s up next for you?
The second book in my Playful Brides series, The Accidental Countess, just came out in November, and the next one, The Unlikely Lady, comes out in May 2015. I’m writing book 4, The Irresistible Rogue right now and having the best time! It’s a Regency-set take on The Philadelphia Story.
About the author:
Valerie Bowman grew up in Illinois with six sisters (she’s number seven) and a huge supply of historical romance novels. After a cold and snowy stint earning a degree in English with a minor in history at Smith College, she moved to Florida the first chance she got. Valerie now lives in Jacksonville with her family including her rascally rescue dog, Roo. When she’s not writing, she keeps busy reading, traveling, or vacillating between watching crazy reality TV and PBS. Visit Valerie online at ValerieBowmanBooks.com.
