About the book:
When Callie’s life is cut short by a tragic accident, she expects to find nothingness, or maybe some version of heaven.
Instead, her spirit travels to the Prism, an ethereal plane populated by the ghosts she thought were fictional. Here she meets a striking and mysterious ghost named Thatcher, who is meant to guide her as she learns to haunt and bring peace to the loved ones she left behind.
However, Callie uncovers a dark secret about the spirit world: The angry souls who always populate ghost stories are real, dangerous, and willing to do whatever it takes to stay on Earth, threatening the existence of everyone she ever cared about.
As she fights to save them, Callie will learn that while it may no longer beat, her heart can still love-and break.
Exclusive interview with the author:
1) What genre have you not yet written but really want to try?
I’d love to write a Middle Grade novel, maybe with a main character around 11. That is such a “brink-of” time… childhood is coming to a close and adolescence is hitting you head on, smack in the face most days. It’s a rough moment, full of dramatic potential.
2) Be honest, how many drafts did you have to write for this book?
Five. FIVE. It makes me tired to even think about it. But there it is.
3) What do you do in your spare time when you’re not writing?
I mostly hang out with my daughter, who’s 2 years old. She’s really into stickers and play-dough and paints, which means my apartment is a mess, but we have a lot of fun.
4) Who’s your favorite character in the book and why? Who was the most fun to write?
Carson, Callie’s best friend, was by far my favorite. She was just full of life from the first moment she danced onto the page, and her scenes came more easily to me than any others. I could hear her in my head (in a non-crazy writer way, of course).
5) What’s up next for you?
The sequel to ASHES TO ASHES (which is called DUST TO DUST), should be out next year. I’m working on it now and saying my goodbye to these characters. Bittersweet!
